The Kunětická hora Hill a stone quarry abandoned for 100 year
Isolation of the rocky habitat on Kunětická hora has contributed to local extinction of the Hermit and the Chequered Blue butterflies. The Scarce Swallowtail (a forest-steppe species) has also disappeared from the site.
Populations of several rocky or stony substrate-bound species of nocturnal butterflies still survive on Kunětická Hora as on an "island".
Hermit (Chazara briseis)
Chequered Blue (Scolitantides orion)
Scarce Swallowtail (Iphiclides podalirius)
geometer moth Euphyia frustata
Black-banded (Polymixis xanthomista)
Stone quarry Rožmitál u Broumova
The newly exposed and sunlit rocky-clay edges at the upper edge of the Rožmitál quarry area host a rich insect community – many Hymenoptera species nest there, tiger beetles and oil beetles also occur.
The expansive Oxythyrea funesta was first reported in Rožmitál Quarry in 2014. An unusually abundant occurrence of this species was observed a year later, when thousands (or even tens of thousands) of adults were concentrated on the spoil pits on flowering Winter-cress.

Stone quarry Rožmitál u Broumova
The Rožmitál quarry is currently the only known place in the Hradec Králové Region where the rare Southern Rustic moth is found. Until recently, this was also the case for the Cinnabar, but in recent years it has disappeared from the quarry area for no apparent reason.
Southern Rustic (Rhyacia lucipeta)
Cinnabar (Tyria jacobaeae)

Annulet (Charissa obscurata)
Birch Sawfly (Cimbex femoratus)
Stone quarries – insects associated with early succession woody plants
Early succession woody plants (birch, goat willow, aspen) which grow in abandoned quarry areas host numerous nocturnal butterflies (moths). Stressed plants in extreme locations are attractive for many tree associated beetles.
Eyed Hawk-moth (Smerinthus ocellatus)
Poplar Hawk-moth (Laothoe populi)
Goat Moth (Cossus cossus)
Puss Moth (Cerura vinula)
Three-humped Prominent (Notodonta tritophus)
